Overview of Assessment Structure

This assessment is divided into three distinct parts, each administered as a separate test. Here’s a breakdown of each part:

Part One: Literacy and English Language Arts

Content: This is a newly developed test focusing on Literacy and English Language Arts.

Structure: Consists of selected-response items and one extended constructed-response item.

Scoring:

Selected-response items account for 70% of the total score.

The constructed-response item contributes 30% of the total score.

Testing Time: Total of 120 minutes.

60 minutes for selected-response items.

60 minutes for the constructed-response item.

Part Two: Mathematics

Content: This part is also newly developed and focuses on Mathematics.

Structure: Includes selected-response items and one extended constructed-response item.

Scoring:

Selected-response items make up 80% of the total score.

The constructed-response item accounts for 20% of the total score.

Testing Time: Total of 135 minutes.

75 minutes for selected-response items.

60 minutes for the constructed-response item.

Part Three: Arts and Sciences

Content: Utilizes content from the previously administered Multi-Subject Content Specialty Test (field 002).

Structure: Only consists of selected-response items.

Shared Part: This part is common across all four Multi-Subject assessments. Candidates seeking Multi-Subject certificates for more than one grade level need only pass Part Three once.

Testing Time: Total of 60 minutes for selected-response items.

General Information

Passing Requirement: Candidates must meet or exceed a separate performance standard for each part to pass the overall assessment.

Unique Scoring and Timing: Each selected-response item contributes equally to the total test score, and the specific scoring contribution of the constructed-response items is detailed further in accompanying tables.
